This way is appropriate for installing themes on WordPress.com.

On the next page, you enter theme name in search box. If you don’t know exactly the theme you want to install, you can use filter functionalities on the top of the screen.
Once you find the theme, drag your mouse over the theme. Then, you will see install button and detail & Preview option. You can preview the theme. Keep in mind that preview isn’t always exact.

Normally, premium themes from third parties aren’t on WordPress.com. In this case, they provide the theme as a zip file. You need to download this file.
For example, if you register a lifetime package at Theme Junkie, you can download any theme you want.
After that, you need to go to Appearance -> Themes. Click on Add New button. Next, you need to click on Upload Themes.
Lastly, you select a zip file you just downloaded. Then you click on Install Now and active the theme.
Install theme by uploading theme to wp-content/themes folder
This method is used if you can’t install the theme by using two methods above.
First, you need to have a theme in a zip file format. You extract the file.
